EVERYDAY OBJECTS | NEIGHBORS TAPROOM

For me, the almost fascinating aspect of human existence lies in what we create, the EVERYDAY OBJECTS. It is these materials and structures that reveal our desires, our necessity, our creativity, and our capability. As fascinating is the tremendous diversity we so display in our date with these synthetic objects. We sometimes hold dear and comprehend our creations for decades or centuries. Or, we may fail them, unceremoniously, leaving it to the artist or curious passerby to rediscover and redefine our human relationship to these forgotten structures as they historic period, weather, or scissure. As one of these curious-blazon people, I observe myself drawn to the colors and craftsmanship, the scars and wrinkles. Although such details and long-lost whispers may go unnoticed by many, to me they exude shimmering glimpses of depth, history, and significant I can not aid but explore, photograph, and share.

ANITA REUTHER | HA AUSTIN | SIDESTREET ARTS

Anita Reuther has a lifelong beloved of the Pacific Northwest. Her mixed media art reflects this with dreamy speckled hillsides, cloudy mountain ranges, and charming bird vignettes. Deeply textured and collaged papers form moody landscapes that the viewer can fall into.

Anita lives and works in Lake Oswego. She is a fellow member of the Watercolor Lodge of Oregon and the Three Rivers Artist Guild in Oregon Metropolis.

Sidestreet member and ceramic artist, Ha Austin, crafts what she calls "functional clay canvases". Platters, flower vases, tea cups with saucers, and sturdy java mugs are not only functional, but delightful. Each is designed with whimsical sgraffito images and colorful manus-mixed glazes before firing in a gas-kiln at a loftier temperature. Chubby piffling wrens, royal lotus blossoms, and lily pads make the each ceramic piece a functional work of art.

Re: THE SOURCE | BUTTERS GALLERY

Re: The Source
The source is what we are drawing from, become inspired by, learn from, contemplate over, exploit and ignore.
The source shapes us and makes us what we are. We are that source.

Nosotros have invented many different words for that source from which nosotros originate, to which we render.
(Words turn into concepts, ideas, sciences, philosophies, religions, cults and cultures. All with the ane purpose of trying to understand and to make sense of our being in this world.)
In our creating and experiencings of art, in moments of presence, nosotros connect with the source and discover significant and purpose.
The engaging with fine art strengthens our connectivity with the source.
Nosotros draw everything from the source and we give everything back. Only this way the cycling of life continues.

The paintings of this presentation are a few samples of my lifelong and more or less successful attempts to connect and to share my findings.
Maybe the one or the other of these works speaks to you and helps you connect with your source in you in unexpected ways.
Respectfully yours,

Bernd Haussmann

WHITE LIES SHE TOLD ME – SADÉ DUBOIS | PUSHDOT STUDIO

The central adult female figure in these paintings is a portrait I have painted many times throughout my career, whom I call Umnia Vera, which ways "organized religion faith", but more so symbolizes the traversing and overcoming of deep emotional trauma, pain, and adversity in my life. In a style, these paintings are self portraits."

Born and raised in North Portland, Sadé is a cocky-taught painter who experiments primarily with acrylic and gouache. UPCOMING SHOWS

REBIRTH, REJUVENATION, AND REVOLUTION | Eastward Artistic COLLECTIVE

"Ranging from an aboriginal rite of spring, to a celebration of religious transformation, to a call for workers rights and immigration reform, the beginning of May has a persistent association with change.

While the context and nature of this transformation is subject to its own transitional nature, at that place is also a common thread. Whether a reflection of natural miracle, our own personal and spiritual narratives, or even social revolution, change is constant, and despite what is left behind, it is a cause for celebration. Even when the tremulous gulf of such growth comes as out of both gentle rains, and rushing torrents of upheaval.Rebirth,

Rejuvenation, and Revolution asks us to consider the mutual spirit and nature of this menstruum. Do we see it equally a new beginning or a the turning of a bicycle? Is each new leaf a sutured healing or a shinning resurrection? Or perhaps such attempts at continuity are all simply fictions in the confront of entropic metamorphose…"

In celebration of art openings tomorrow that focus on line, the subject of this months newsletter is delineations, subjects that marker or deliquesce separations, or those that challenge the very concept itself…

As a visual separator, line is one of the primal elements of art, even so the process of delineation is too one of the central means through through which we conceptualize, and make sense of a chaotic globe.

While we oft take for granted the conceptual borders we apply to create classifications, reality is more subtle; boundaries betwixt phenomenon rarely fit then neatly into the spaces we assign them. While lines may create a useful shorthand, they are not inherent to a world that ofttimes prefers shine blending.

Indeed, there is a danger of bias and preconception when we overly rely on such tools. Still, line tin can also be used every bit a compositional element, rather than solely every bit a unit of measurement of division. The novel use is visually arresting, and too conceptually intriguing; it recast the tools of separation into the building blocks of new meaning and harmony.

Tenya Rodriguez'south Bio:

markings made from meditations. movements measured in slowness. lines that force a monkey mind, my monkey mind to exist present with and for every gesture. slow art and tedious looking when the globe feels disconnected and oft times besides much. the idea behind my art is to come to the paper each morning with a simple ballpoint pen and create the aforementioned meditative movement again and once more. the lines layer up, overlap, connect, and nowadays themselves equally abstracts with their own witting form. they are daily reminders that much can exist created and achieved in one sitting of fifteen minute slowness.

Depiction | REDUX

Redux is pleased to present a group show featuring five Portland artists and their astonishing mastery of line-piece of work and illustration. Featured artists include Megan Eckman, Marika Paz, Isaac Fletcher-Weiss, Kirsten Moore and Helen Mask-Greer.

This show explores the diverseness of methods artists utilise in defining infinite, carving out edges, and focusing on an object. "Delineation" describes the action of portraying something precisely. Some illustrate and define an object in its buildup of line, dots or shadow; others reveal the object through the suggestion of negative space. Sometimes emphasis is placed on something past drawing the viewer in with a minor focal bespeak of color within a sea of grayscale. Other times special consideration is paid to an environment of color, containing an object defined by black and white. In this show nosotros have asked artists to illustrate how they tell their own stories through a personal approach to illustrative line-making.

While there are possibly space elements which characterize art, none looms so big in pure expressive ability as colour. In either exuberant overabundance, or in limited dramatic palates, color, more than course, line, or space is the essence of feeling. Much like feeling itself all the same, color is as well a matter that does not exist independent of its bailiwick but rather alters its.

In this respect color is not unlike collage. Through the repurposing of existing images, collage permits the creation of new subjects and meaning. The previously banal or beneficial can take on urgent potency with new context.

Like an alchemist, this amending is the essential power of fine art. In doing and so the artist can recast the mundane to the sublime, ugliness into dazzler…and also the reverse. In deciding if such such feats of transmutation are truly possible however, information technology as well a ability which the viewer shares.
